FlashCedere® Conformance Tester

Automated conformance testing of diagnostic and flash communication – the quality gate for ADLATUS® flashloaders and OEM releases.

Overview

Test before series production.

FlashCedere® automatically checks whether a flashloader complies with the specifications for timing, content and sequence. The test station consists of a PC with a communication interface and the FlashCedere® software. Test cases are developed generically and supplied with ECU-specific parameters only at runtime – a generic test bundle therefore covers all variants that comply with the UDS Update Protocol specification.

Scope & evidence

The truth is on the bus.

Testing covers the basic, diagnostic and update communication of an ECU — the entire communication stack. On the bus side, CAN, CAN FD and FlexRay are supported, including simulation of both coldstart nodes, so that passive ECUs without their own coldstart capability can also be fully tested.

The required parameterization is performed automatically from FIBEX and ODX files, so new variants can be integrated without additional manual effort.

For suppliers who have to go through OEM releases, FlashCedere® offers end-to-end traceability from the requirement via the verification criteria to the specific test result — and thus the chain of evidence required for audits and release processes.

Technical features

From single test to test suite via parameterization

  • Automated testing of the communication levels: basic, diagnostic and update communication
  • Supported bus systems: CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay (incl. simulation of both coldstart nodes for passive ECUs)
  • Generic test cases: ECU-specific parameterization at runtime – no test case per variant
  • Automatic parameterization from FIBEX and ODX files
  • Recording of the entire communication process with message trace and time stamps
  • Report and trace as HTML and ASCII file
  • Simple management of test cases and test bundles
  • Flexible export/import function for test results
  • Easy integration of security DLLs
  • OEM test know-how can be encrypted in the FlashCedere® TestRunner
  • Traceability: requirement → verification criteria → test result
  • Product license via USB dongle (CAN/CAN FD or FlexRay; separate licenses per test library)
  • Certified test libraries as a “quality gate” for suppliers in OEM releases
  • Software test support for ASPICE V4 Capability Level 2
FAQ

Frequently asked questions about FlashCedere®

What is the FlashCedere® Conformance Tester?

FlashCedere® is a PC-based tester for automated testing of update programming and diagnostic communication of ECUs. It checks whether an ECU, e.g. the ADLATUS® Flashloader, complies with the specification in terms of timing, content and sequence.

What are the areas of application for FlashCedere?

FlashCedere is used for conformance tests of flash and diagnostic functions against OEM specifications (flash requirements specification). Further areas of application are the release and quality assurance of ECU software, regression tests for software extensions and bug fixes, robustness and stress tests as well as acceptance tests. The tester is used both in the development stage and in series testing.

Which bus systems and protocols does FlashCedere support?

FlashCedere supports the bus systems Ethernet, FlexRay, CAN, CAN FD, LIN, K-Line and UART (RS232). Diagnostics follow UDS (ISO 14229), and ISO 14230 for K-Line. Supported transport protocols are ISO 13400-2 (DoIP, 2012) for Ethernet, ISO 15765-2 for CAN, ISO 15765-2 Third Edition (2016-04-01) for CAN FD, ISO 10681-2 and AUTOSAR FlexRay TP for FlexRay, and LIN 2.x.

Who is FlashCedere intended for?

OEMs use FlashCedere for release and quality assurance, with the test expertise remaining with the OEM, since the TestRunner libraries can be encrypted. Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers use FlashCedere for development-related testing and for demonstrating OEM conformance prior to release.

How does FlashCedere support ASPICE and verification evidence?

FlashCedere supports software testing in line with ASPICE Capability Level 2. Traceability extends seamlessly from requirement through verification criteria to test result. Certified test libraries serve suppliers as a quality gate in OEM releases.
