SC Retrofit controllers
Old machine with new controller – an upgrade to state-of-the-art control technology in just a few steps.
Refit, not replace
Many machines in the food industry have been running for ten, fifteen or more years. The mechanics are solid, the stainless steel still shines — but the controller has reached the end of its service life. Spare parts are becoming scarce, safety concepts no longer meet current requirements, and the electronics can no longer be sourced. Building a completely new machine, however, would be disproportionately expensive. A retrofit controller can be the solution.
As little as possible, as much as needed
With SC Retrofit, you modernize existing food production machines without replacing them completely.
Replace
Outdated controllers are replaced selectively with SMARTcontrol FOOD components, for example the touch panel or DIN rail controllers.
Reuse
Wherever possible, we continue to use the existing wiring and sensors — this protects the investment already made.
Upgrade
HTML5 web interfaces, HACCP logging and cloud connectivity can easily be added, without replacing the entire machine.
What the refit involves
-
Replacement of outdated controllers with modern SC touch panels or DIN rail (top-hat rail) modules
-
Replacement of the old I/O module with a new SC I/O module
-
Use of the existing machine wiring
What a refit offers
-
Use of the existing machine wiring
-
New, future-proof controller reflecting the current state of the art
-
A wide range of expansion options: installation of the SC LOG machine monitoring software, a larger display
Frequently asked questions about SC Retrofit
SMARTcontrol Retrofit is a retrofit controller for existing machines. The old controller is removed and the new controller is installed. The current retrofit version is SMARTcontrol FOOD – RF with operation via the browser, I/O via CANopen and the SMARTcontrol FOOD software.
The retrofit controller is designed for existing machines in the butchery and food industry, such as smoking, ripening, cooking, baking, climate and drying machines.
In principle, all SMARTcontrol display sizes are also available for retrofits. Currently these are 7″, 10.1″, 12.1″, 15″ and any other size on request. The displays are usually in 16:9 or 16:10 format. The housing is made of V2A stainless steel with laminated safety glass and is protected to IP68 at the front. The connection is via Ethernet, operation via web browser with HTML5.
First, the machine type, the design variant and the assignment in the wiring diagram with the terminal numbers of the old controller are recorded. This covers digital outputs such as fans and valves, digital inputs such as door contacts, analog outputs and analog inputs such as PT100 and thermocouples. In addition, the product programs and settings such as controller parameters and times are taken over from the old controller. The signals of the old controller are assigned to the ports of the new controller; signals that are not needed remain unwired. The project is created from a project template matching the machine type, saved, validated, generated and loaded onto the target controller via LAN. During installation, the old controller is removed, the cabling is reused and the new controller is installed. The sensors are then calibrated in the service area.
